The 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a cool, reserved nose at first that you would imagine comes from a much cooler growing season. Yet it gains intensity with aeration, very precise and mineral-driven, bright white pear and green apple with light sea spray scents emerging with time. The palate is very balanced with a tangy entry, a fine bead of acidity, real depth and a dash of spice towards the persistent finish. Brilliant.

The 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru consists of just one lonely 250-liter barrel this year. There was a little reduction on the nose at first, but it blows away to reveal intense citrus fruit, undergrowth and flinty aromas. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, with a strong marine influence (oyster shell and an almost briny element) and great persistence on the finish. Superb.
