The 2018 Family Vineyards Pinot Noir is matured for 11 months in 228-liter barrels. It has a well defined bouquet of red cherry and crushed strawberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red berry fruit, fine acidity and a gentle, caressing finish that is very sensual. Recommended.

100% Pinot Noir grown on decomposed granite over red clay subsoil. Between 3,333 and 6,800 vines per hectare with yields of 29–39 hl/ha. Grapes were hand harvested. The wine was matured for 11 months in 228-litre and 500-litre barrels produced in Burgundy, of which 13% were new. The wine is racked to stainless-steel tanks for another six months of élevage. No filtration before bottling. Unfined. Winemakers Gordon and Nadia Newton Johnson. TA 5.31 g/l, pH 3.56, RS 2 g/l. Available from WaitroseCellar.com only. Pale ruby. Sweet and jewelly. Good intensity and very crowd-pleasing fruit. Well done! Lots of oomph. Oak influence but not too much. Better than the really cheap Pinots in this collection. (JR)

Pale ruby. Slightly vegy note on the nose. But pretty and nice balance of fruit and (fairly considerable) acidity on the palate. Quite delicate. Not that much depth but a very good attempt. (JR)
