Coming the southwest corner of this site and from 40-year-old vines, the 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Le Grand Maupertui was all destemmed and aged in one-third new French oak. Rocking black cherry, violets, spring flowers, sandalwood, and incense notes give way to a medium to full-bodied, focused, structured wine that has fine tannins, considerable elegance, and a great finish. Give bottles 2-4 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

The 2018 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru has a little more fruité on the nose compared to the Echézeaux, offering cranberry, raspberry and light aromas of damp woodland. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, fine acidity and a lightly spiced, quite linear finish that feels persistent and satisfying. Superb.
