The 2017 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has quite a pointed bouquet of dark cherries, light crushed stone aromas and a touch of bergamot. The medium-bodied palate is quite linear and conservative in style, especially for a Volnay, and displays precise tannin. The lithe, supple finish offers a lovely touch of spice. Very fine.

A little whole bunch. From barrel. Not yet racked. Dark-red fruit and a touch of spice. Sweet bramble fruit and a lightness of touch, lightly structured like layers of paper. Less depth than the Clos de la Cave des Ducs but persistent. More chewy and earthy on the finish but there’s a nice tension at the end. (JH)
