A 0.6-ha plot opposite Clos St-Denis and up against the wall of Clos de Vougeot. They bottle it separately because there is more iron in the soil, as in the Combe d’Orveau. 70% stems. Around 10% new oak. Mid to light cherry red. Dark-red-fruited and gently spiced. A subtle herbal freshness. Relatively light on the palate, quite strict, the tannins finely grained but present. (JH)

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Hautes Maizières, from vines that more or less back onto the walls of Clos Vougeot, contains 80% whole bunches. The harmonious bouquet of red currant and cranberry fruit reveals touches of crushed stone and forest floor. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannin, a perfect line of acidity and beautiful focus, plus a tang of spice toward the structured finish. Superb.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Hautes-Maizières offers up aromas of cherries, raspberries, potpourri, blood orange and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and sapid palate that's richer and more layered than the domaine's regular Vosne bottling, with succulent acids and fragrant finish.
