Paolo Cianferoni's Caparsa 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Caparsino (with the fun sketch of a man drinking from a traditional Chianti flask on the front label) is made with certified-organic fruit. This is a nicely balanced and fresh red wine with wild berry, crushed rose, mineral notes and grilled herb. This food-friendly wine would perform nicely next to a simple plate of grilled pork chops and mashed potatoes. This is an unexpected discovery wine from Radda in Chianti.

The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Caparsino is the more refined of the estate's two Riservas. Aromatic, silky and also plush, the 2016 is fabulous. Mint, pine, lavender, espresso and macerated dark cherry all open up in the glass, but more than anything else, the 2016 is a wine that gracefully marries power with richness. The 2016 is a total knock-out. Don't miss it.
Radda in Chianti. 100% Sangiovese. Deep, lustrous ruby. Slightly dusty and a little herbal on the nose while the palate shows tangy cherry fruit and is notably high in acidity, almost a little uncomfortable, on the finish. Although it has the bones for ageing, with big tannins on the finish it is a little rustic. (WS)
