Score 96/100 · Drink 2021-2050, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Dec 2021

The 2019 Riesling Smaragd Unendlich was mainly sourced in the Kellerberg and is based on the second trie that includes overripe grapes with 15% to 20% raisined berries yet no botrytis. This makes for 120° Oechsle in contrast to the Kellerberg, which is based on a must weight of 95° to 100° Oechsle and contains the first and the healthy part of the second trie. The wine is amazingly bright in its lime-green color. With a highly delicate and concentrated lemon and raisin aroma intertwined with fresh, coolish and stony notes on the nose, this is a full-bodied, rich, concentrated, densely textured and viscous Riesling that reveals enormous power and extract sweetness. This is a Riesling for hedonists, but for purists; the 2019 has an enormous, vital and filigreed finish with great mineral and phenolic grip. The long, long finish is not only due to the sheer power but the phenomenal terroir that combines gneiss, granite and amphibolite with a rather coolish microclimate. The 2019 already drinks very well, but it will gain even more aromatic complexity and class with bottle age. The rich wine has fine tannin grip and healthy mineral acidity that gives it huge aging potential. 14% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in June 2021.
