60% Persan, 40% Mondeuse, from vines above the village of Cévins. Quite a price! Presumably this reflects rarity. Deep ruby. Heady, concentrated nose of ripe plums. Marked acidity and quite a bit of fine tannin. Pretty uncompromising build. Food desperately needed with this wine. (JR)

The 2016 Vin des Allobroges Cevins "Améthyste" is a fascinating wine from the Savoie, representing a blend of 60% Persan with 40% Mondeuse, fermented in tank and then aged for a year in previously used barriques. The wine has a dark ruby color and displays pure, fresh but perfectly ripe fruit with cherry and plummy aromas intertwined with coolish, smoky, spicy, herbal-mineral, radicchio and raw purple cabbage notes in the background. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, silky textured, intense and elegant red wine with good concentration, fine tannins and a long, vital finish. The fine acidity is ripe but carries the dense and firmly structured wine into a long and refreshing finish. I tasted the 2016 over four days, and it became more and more finessed and aromatic. Just 12% alcohol. Organic farming. Tasted December 2017.
