A blend of 60% Grenache (from gneiss soils and aged in concrete eggs) and 40% Syrah (from clay-limestone soils and aged in demi-muids), the 2019 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Latour de France Visitare Interiore Terrae features aromas of cedar, asphalt, black olives and dark-skinned fruit. Full-bodied and concentrated, it's framed by fine, silky tannins and finishes long. 374 cases produced.

65% Grenache on gneiss, aged in concrete, plus 35% Syrah on clay-limestone, aged in demi-muids. Mid crimson. Smells more red-fruited than the straight Bila-Haut red but still with that lovely smoky/mineral, almost ethereal character. Elegant, dry smoky flavour seems to suffuse the texture. Beautifully dry, dark-chocolate finish. (JH)

Moving to the top two cuvées, the 2019 Côtes Du Roussillon Villages Latour De France Visitare Interiore Terrae is a 60/40 split of Grenache and Syrah that comes from more limestone and gneiss soils. It was all destemmed and spent 18 months in a mix of concrete tanks and once-used demi-muids. It’s a beauty that I’d happily put in a blind lineup of top Châteauneuf du Pape and offers lots of red and blue fruits as well as resinous herbs, ground pepper, and chalky minerality. With medium to full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and fabulous balance, it’s not a blockbuster and holds onto a terrific sense of purity and elegance. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years.
