The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is slightly deeper in color than its peers. The nose exudes very ripe, sunkissed tropical fruit: melon, guava and pineapple. This, as well, lacks tension and mineralité , becoming quite vanilla-forward with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous opening, a honeyed texture and low acidity, closing with a pleasant, if slightly predictable, possibly slightly-botrytised finish. I expect more given its Grand Cru status. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a very intense, focused bouquet displaying just a touch of licorice behind the malic facade. The palate is well balanced with a sensual opening and good depth, but it misses just a little tension and acidic spine on the finish, especially when juxtaposed against the Charlemagne. Hopefully it will improve during the remainder of its barrel maturation.
