The 2019 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has a perplexing nose, with quite a bit of VA at first and touches of meat juices infusing the red fruit. The palate feels a bit heavy-handed with some drying tannins. Overtly savory in style, with a touch of beef stock on the finish, it’s just lacking the sense of Pinoté , and though it contains decent length, overall it’s a bit ponderous compared to its peers. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Bright, pale crimson. Solid, low-key nose. Then masses of sweet fruit and a lightly sandy texture with a saline hint on the finish. Fairly solid for now with some perceptible tannins. Sour cherry flavour. (JR)
