Translucent gold. Mineral-accented white peach, orange, Anjou pear, saffron and floral qualities on the deeply perfumed nose. Concentrated orchard and pit fruit flavors are complemented by suggestions of tarragon, sweet butter and candied lemon peel. Melds depth and energy with a steady hand and finishes smoky and impressively long, with lingering Meyer lemon and pear nectar notes.

The medium-bodied 2018 Premium Chardonnay is just slightly richer and riper-tasting than the Estate, with notes of toasted brioche and hazelnuts accenting peaches and citrus. Silky in texture, with ample depth and intensity, this should drink well for 5-6 years, perhaps longer.

About the producer

Bass Phillip
Bass Phillip

Bass Phillip has been quietly making world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Leongatha, South Gippsland, since the 1990s. The estate’s wines were long sold almost exclusively in Australia, meaning that the producer remains relatively little-known beyond its native shores.
