The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie is drinking beautifully today, bursting with aromas of pear, waxy citrus rind, crisp stone fruit, white flowers, hazelnuts and struck match, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered palate that's pure, seamless and textural, with lively acids and an expansive finish. There's no reason to defer gratification.

Their biggest premier cru. Three different parcels next door to the winery on the southern edge of the village. Picked 8 or 9 September. He was anxious about getting too much sugar. Tank sample. Minerally nose. Good sensation of ripeness only just held in check. Very comfortable in its own skin. Manages to be both rich and tense at same time. Chewy end. (JR)
