There’s a ripeness of yellow fruit on the nose, which seems to clearly reflect the generosity of the 2018 vintage. A rich viscous texture vindicates this theory, but rock-dusty mineral nuances and a phenolic piquancy add plenty of edge. Cool and dry on the finish with a fascinating hint of aniseed. (MS)

The 2018 Marienburg GG Falkenlay is pure, fresh and mineral on the (flint-) stony and only discreetly fruity nose that is more for Riesling nerds rather than beginners. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a lush, very intense and sustainable Falkenlay with remarkable purity, finesse and tension. The finish is tight, complex, very long and stimulating. Extraordinarily good. 13.5% alcohol. Tasted from AP 3719 in July 2020.
