The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot has turned out nicely, wafting from the glass with scents of pear, citrus oil, blanched almond, nutmeg and buttery pastry. Full-bodied, layered and unctuous, this is a rich, ripe wine, yet it's bright and lively, too, with a lovely line of acidity. As readers may know, this cuvée derives from lieux-dit En Franchemont, on the border with Santenay—in fact, a parcel that once supplied Maison Verget.

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru comes from a mere 0.33 hectares of 80-year-old vines located just below the Abbaye de Morgeot lieu-dit. It has a fresh, vibrant bouquet of apricot, orange pith and light crushed stone aromas – probably my pick of the aromatics among the four white 2018s tasted from Dugat-Py. The palate is very well balanced with a slightly creamy opening, lovely apricot and clementine notes, a fine line of acidity and an energetic finish. This is a quite superb Chassagne from the Gevrey producer.
