Christoph Schaefer's 2019 Graacher Riesling Trocken offers an intense, ripe and delicately slatey bouquet. The wine is round and fresh on the palate, as well as pretty rich and intense and, thus, doesn't need any residual sugar to give a round and elegant impression. The finish is tight and mineral and reveals impressive intensity for just 11.5% alcohol. Tasted in June 2020. Schaefer also produced a Grosses Gewächs from the Graacher Himmelreich again in 2019, but I haven't yet tasted that wine, which will be sold from September onward.

AP number 06 20. RS 7 g/l. Tingly, racy nose that's full of life, even if the palate is pretty punishing in terms of acidity at this stage. Admirably complex but still very youthful. Grainy finish. (JR)
