The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru has some reduction on the nose, although this seems partly to blow off with aeration. I would still give this a rigorous decant. The palate is thickly-textured, honeyed, notably dense and viscous, with a slightly waxy-textured, resinous finish. There’s a lot of extraction here, but it comes at the cost of some elegance and precision. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet was one of the lowest-yielding cuvées chez Sauzet this year, and it's a ripe, powerful wine. Mingling notes of honeycomb, orange oil and pear with hints of fresh bread, white flowers and crushed chalk, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and textural, with a deep core of fruit and succulent acids. It will be interesting to revisit it in bottle.

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru has a more austere bouquet compared to the La Truffière: granite and flint notes, a touch fumé in style. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, strict and correct, a Puligy with a sapid finish that cries out for fruits de mer ! Very fine, though one for the Puligny hardcore.
