The 2019 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru is a little ponderous on the nose compared to Michel Bouzereau's Genevrières. There's some heavy reduction here, and it lacks freshness due to the alcohol level. The palate is sour on the entry, quite volatile and not as clean as I would like with a drying finish. It does improve with aeration in the glass, retaining a sense of feistiness and just missing the grace of its peers. You get the feeling that this Meursault is keeping something up its sleeve; hence the plus sign against my score. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The king of the cellar is the 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières, a deep and concentrated wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, peach, freshly baked bread, white flowers, ripe citrus fruits and buttered popcorn. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with a layered, multidimensional profile and a long, saline finish, it has turned out brilliantly.

The 2019 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru had not been racked and was sulfured the week prior to my visit. It has a crisp, well-defined bouquet, although I find the Meursault Charmes has a little more personality and terroir expression at the moment. The palate delivers a pleasant saline bite on the entry, and good depth and more concentration than the Charmes. Spicy yet just missing some complexity on the finish.
