Gringet. From a small parcel at 450 m/1,480 ft in elevation, some parts of the slope are at a 40% gradient – a particularly warm spot. Clay-limestone soils. Fermented and aged in egg-shaped concrete vats (Nomblot). Lucid aromas of ripe orchard fruits with jasmine and yarrow wafting over. Bottle age has gifted a layer of toasty buckwheat and hay to the nose. The palate is poised between a silk-textured background and a great sweep of luminous acidity that melds into the depths of green apple, mandarin peel and fennel. Gently tactile phenolics blend harmoniously with all that freshness through the super-saline, mineral-laden finish. A synergy of gravitas and elegance, with no doubt more to come. (OC)
