Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Sep 2024

The 2020 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a very strange nose. It is extraordinarily ripe, prune-like and lacking typicité , which is an acute problem at this level. I do not believe this can be representative and will not score this. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru had a nose that I could not quite work out, especially coming after the Charmes-Chambertin. It felt a little monochromatic at first, only gradually developing more fruit intensity and depth. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and ripe, though I little oaky on the finish? Tricky one this - difficult to see how this will develop and so I will be prudent with my score and wait to be proved wrong.
