The 2019 Marsannay Le Chapitre Rouge has a very well defined bouquet with dark cherry, wild strawberry and a tangible marine influence of seaweed and oyster shell. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, good acidity, mulberry mixed with a touch of fennel towards the sauvage finish. Excellent.

A distinct ingredient in Le Chapitre that he regards as Le Clos du Chapitre. 50-year-old vines. Hard limestone. Best terroir of the village of Marsannay but the INAO missed it initially, according to Pataille. ‘Jean-Yves Bizot makes a wine from this site and serves it after his Vosnes.’ Cask sample. Rather sumptuous and really polished, sweet and gentle. Very long and vibrant. (JR)
