FINE+RARE, Apr 2022

Ch. Tour Saint-Christophe managed to escape the worst of the frost and found the climatic conditions perfect from mid-September onwards in their first full year farming organically. Sunny days with significant temperature variations suited the phenolic ripening and allowed the estate to harvest each parcel at optimal maturity. Deep garnet in colour, the 2021 reveals delicate aromas of black cherry and currants on the nose with a touch of blueberry. The palate is medium to full-bodied and displays an impressive minerality that stands out. Chalky tannins lead to a long and intricate finish. Blend: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc.

Always a gem of a wine, the 2021 Château Tour Saint Christophe is no exception and has tons of charm and character. Ripe red and black fruits, tobacco, chalky minerality, and nicely integrated oak all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, with a focused, elegant mouthfeel and ripe tannins. Mostly Merlot (20% Cabernet Franc) brought up in 40% new oak, it plays in the fresher, more focused style of the vintage yet brings good ripeness as well as concentration. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following 15.

The 2021 Tour Saint Christophe has a controlled and focused bouquet with mulberry and black cherry fruit, a touch of licorice emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and fine depth for the vintage, but it just pulls up a little short and slightly bitter on the finish. It’s not bad overall though.
