Score 94/100 · Drink 2021-2036, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Feb 2020

Aged 22 months, the 2017 Vertigo 22 is medium to deep ruby-purple in the glass. The nose slowly unfurls to black currants, black cherry jam, grilled meats and fresh violets with touches of blueberry, tar, loamy earth and mint chocolate. Full-bodied, silky and rich, it slowly opens to oodles of nuanced black and blue fruits, with a firm, fine-grained frame and fantastic freshness, finishing long.

The same 65% Syrah, 30% Mourvèdre, and 5% Grenache as the classic Vertigo, yet aged 22 months in barrel, the 2017 Vertigo 22 boasts a deep purple color as well as a mammoth-sized bouquet of blackberries, dry-aged meats, melted licorice, crushed violets, and white chocolate. Deep, massively concentrated, yet with a level of purity that's just about off the charts, this thrilling Syrah blend from Jenson will stand up the best from Sine Qua Non, Saxum, and John Alban. Drink it any time over the coming 10-15 years.
