The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard is a dark, inward wine. An intense core of fruit currently lies behind a shroud of tannins that is nearly impenetrable. Still, with time in the glass, some of the wine's qualities begin to emerge. This is a striking Cabernet Sauvignon that needs time in the glass to emerge, or another year or two in the cellar. Licorice and violets are some of the notes that wrap around the virile, imposing finish.

Still, with time in the glass, some of the wine’s qualities begin to emerge. This is a striking Cabernet Sauvignon that needs time in the glass to emerge, or another year or two in the cellar. Licorice and violets are some of the notes that wrap around the virile, imposing finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. These are the first wines I have tasted from Myriad Cellars, Mike Smith’s new project. I have a slight preference for 2008 versus 2009 when it comes to the Cabernets, as the 2008s seem to have a touch more delineation and structure than the 2009s, which come across as a bit more forward.
