The 2018 Perlita Malbec Syrah is a fresh and fruit-driven blend of two grapes that I think work well together but are not often used together. In this case, the 80% Malbec and 20% Syrah fermented at a controlled temperature to keep the fruit and matured in used barriques for nine months. It's not ultra complex, but it's clean, balanced and fruit-driven, with a medium-bodied palate, medium ripeness and fine tannins that make it very pleasant and easy to drink. 300,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2019.

A Malbec mixed with 20% Syrah from Vista Flores, aged for eight months in used French oak. Bright purple in the glass. The balsamic nose features candied red currant and plum as well as fleshy notes. Intense on the palate, with a compressed character and tannins that provide a rather rigid structure. Generally compact, it releases flavorful red fruit at the end.

Form Vista Flores. 80% Malbec, 20% Syrah. Best seller. They say it’s more difficult to make this, to make it soft enough, than their more expensive wines. Bright deep crimson. Very frank. Ripe and chewy on the end. A little bit of wood-shavings on the nose. Rather sour on the end. Needs to soften a little. Start drinking at the end of 2020? (JR)
