2020 Ayler Kupp Spatlese Fass 7 07 21

The 2020 Riesling Ayler Kupp Spätlese No. 7 effectively represents the riper portion of the harvest that also netted Kabinett No. 8. Mango and overripe peach are coolingly laced with basil and mint in a fetching aromatic display and a corresponding contrast of elements on a succulent, silken palate. A subtle suggestion of marzipan emerges on the finish, but not to the point of giving the wine a confectionary cast. For that to have been the case, the herbal element remains too strong and the sweetness too deftly integrated – notwithstanding 75 grams of residual sugar. The finish is caressing, ravishingly rich, and harbors just enough citricity to animate and refresh.
