Tasted blind. Pale. Light and a little tart. A tad scrawny. (JR)

The 2021 Connétable Talbot has a light and, as I discerned from barrel, slightly tertiary bouquet with more tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, simple compared to some other Deuxième Vins with just a bit of herbaceousness on the finish.

Handling 2nd wines in 2021 successfully meant leaning into the finesse and balance of St Julien, and making things approachable. They have done a good job with that approach here. Cloves and white pepper spice alongside tobacco leaf and redcurrant - the weakest of the Connetables in the lineup, but plenty to enjoy.

The 2021 Connétable Table has a pleasant earthy bouquet that opens up in the glass to offer brambly black fruit and a subtle marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins on the entry and modest depth, leading to a simple, slightly short finish. (12.8% alcohol)
