Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2022-2032, Neal Martin, Dec 2020

The 2019 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru which had slightly more generous yields than Chassagne since it was less affected by frost, has an intense, rather laconic bouquet that feels tight at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry, firm and masculine, Pommard-like in terms of austerity but there is depth and plenty of black fruit on the finish. Cellar this for 4-5 years if you can.
