Opaque ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red and blue fruits, incense and woodsmoke, along with building spice and mineral notes. Sweet, expansive and supple in texture, offering deeply concentrated yet surprisingly energetic blueberry and black raspberry flavors that pick up a sexy floral pastille flourish on the back half. The floral and blue fruit notes carry emphatically through a long, focused finish that features velvety tannins and lingering spiciness.

70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Grapes are destemmed. 30% of the blend is matured in new barriques and 70% in old barriques. pH 3.1, TA 3.77 g/l. Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Quite austere tannins and the sense that they may not have ripened absolutely perfectly. Slightly pinched fruit but with some alcohol on the end. (JR)

Easily my favorite in the lineup, with medium to full-bodied richness, ripe tannin and beautiful concentration, the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Vieilles Vignes has a textbook bouquet of red and black fruits, garrigue and peppery spice. It should easily be an outstanding wine and keep for a decade or more.
