Soft-grained tannins, medium body, black fruit. Very competent basic Bordeaux – drinkable yet with the classic tannic structure of the region. Not the easiest sell in markets more used to plush New World Cabernet and Merlot, though. (RH)

The 2013 Mauvais Garçon (aka Bad Boy) is a drop-dead gorgeous entry-level offering from Jean-Luc Thunevin. Sumptuous and layered in the glass, the 2013 flows with generous red stone fruits, flowers and spices. The supple, open finish makes it hard to resist a second taste. With an expected retail price of around $20, this should be superb as well.
