70% 80-year-old Grenache, 20% 80-year-old Syrah, 10% 40-year-old Mourvèdre on limestone-clay slopes and blue and yellow clay. One-third whole bunch. Aged for 10 months in one- and two-year-old barrels and then 10 months in foudre. Cask sample. Dark, concentrated crimson. Heady and savoury with notes of garrigue, freshness and a little saline quality. Racy and smooth with tannins unusually polished for this appellation. Pretty scrummy. Great balance. Essence of southern Rhône with none of the drawbacks of dry tannins and obviously excessive alcohol. (JR)

Tasting like the essence of these sun baked slopes, the 2019 Rasteau Vieilles Vignes offer a rich, powerful, full-bodied style as well as classic Rasteau notes of black cherries, chocolate, scorched earth, and pepper. Rich, concentrated, and structured, it's going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for over a decade.
