The 2018 Barolo from Margherita Otto is a pretty wine, but it also comes across as lacking in freshness, as is evidenced by its forward profile and slightly advanced color. Dried cherry, tobacco, spice, cedar and tobacco open gently with a bit aeration. It will be interesting to see if the 2018 gains a bit more mid-palate depth in bottle.

Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Lifted, perfumed red fruit of great appeal with complex, minty oak notes. A mouthful of juicy cherry fruit with supple acidity and fantastic, crunchy tannins. Freshness and bite combined with elegance. Hugely appealing. (WS)
