The 2019 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a more floral bouquet with pressed yellow flowers commingled with jasmine and light earthy aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, clean and precise, sapid if not quite "kicking on" toward the finish as I wish it would. Perhaps in two or three years, it will? Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is more backward on the nose than its peers, yet it is still delineated and focused. A light oyster shell note emerges with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, quite tensile and focused, with a touch of bitter lemon on the entry, if just missing a little nerve on the finish. Fine.

The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre opens in the glass with notes of pear, green apple, wet stones, iodine and fresh pastry. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's taut and concentrated, with bright acids and a long, saline finish. It's derived from holdings in Chapelot.
