The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru has a gentle nose that gradually unfolds in the glass. I appreciate the purity of fruit: black cherries, crushed strawberries, hints of blood orange. It actually becomes more understated in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with what feels like a little more maceration in the winery. It is smooth and intense, though it calls for more mineralité and Pinoté on the finish. I need to see if it can develop more complexity/terroir expression. I was very shocked when its identity was unveiled. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru, which includes 40% whole cluster, was quite backward on the nose, a bit broody and refusing to come out ‘n play. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated oak, quite chalky in texture, very good tension with a linear and energetic finish. Discrete, yet it should blossom with bottle age. Watch this.
