The 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots reveals aromas of dark berries, plums, raw cocoa, sweet soil tones and spices. Medium to full-bodied, deep and tightly wound, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a chalky finish, this is one 2019 that will require a bit of time to show all its cards.

The 2019 Pommard Les Grands Epenots 1er Cru includes 100% whole cluster in order to fill the vat, according to winemaker Brian Sieve. It has a well-defined nose of brambly red fruit, cracked black pepper and clove, plenty of sous-bois coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and good acidity. Classic in style, delivering modest depth on the peppery finish. I suspect that this might drink earlier than some of the other Pommard crus.
