Mingling notes of wild berries and plums with hints of sweet spices, licorice, orange rind and espresso, the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru En Orveaux is medium to full-bodied, layered and multifaceted, framed by powdery structuring tannins and lively acids. It's one of the finer-boned, more nuanced wines in the range this year.

Ripeness that verges on jammy on the nose, although the palate is more savoury in nature. Excellent fruit power, although not quite as rich as their Nuits-St-Georges, which is perhaps apposite for the appellation. (RH)
