This is one of two special Gold Label wines being released now. The Parusso 2013 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Munie is a monument to the hands-on and elaborate winemaking process practiced at this innovative estate. From a cool vintage, the wine has aged beautifully, falling into moments of sheer silkiness and smoothness when it hits the palate. However, there is tannic tightness on the close, and the wine's firm structure is intact, allowing for many more years of cellar aging. This is a special selection of fruit from the Vigna Munie that is found inside the Bussia MGA in Monforte d'Alba. This wine is only made in the best vintages, and this release is 1,893 bottles strong.

The 2013 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Munie feels somewhat austere, compact and not fully expressive. Blood orange, mint, spice and savory accents perk up the red berry fruit. This is an especially nervous style, with strong whole cluster inflections that are on the edge of being too much. I like the chiseled tension quite a bit, but the 2013 is nowhere near ready to drink. Overall, this is a pretty eccentric wine within Barolo, but also a wine that captures the essence of Marco Parusso's style.
