The 2017 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru is much more exuberant and precise than the Echézeaux, offering vibrant red cherry, mineral and rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine grip and a precise, iodine-tinged finish that lingers long in the mouth. This year, the Grands-Echézeaux is a clear step up from the Echézeaux.

The 2017 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru is one of the highlights of the Bichot range, wafting from the glass with aromas of smoked meats, cassis, rich soil and creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with rich structuring tannins, nice flesh at the core and juicy balancing acids.

40% whole-bunch fermented. Aged in oak barrels (50% new) for 16 months. Cask sample. A touch of medicinal character on the nose with some light herbal aromas adds complexity to the heavy-set black fruit. Velvety texture, with finely ground tannin on the finish. (RH)
