The 2020 Chablis Butteaux 1er Cru sports a slightly heavy reduction on the nose but opens nicely with hay bales and light yellow fruit mixed with flinty scents. The latter becomes pronounced with aeration. The palate is well-balanced with a concentrated entry. The acidity matches the slightly honeyed fruit, maybe more Meursault-like than Chablis, although it does deliver complexity and nuance towards the finish. Fine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

More textural than the Fôrets, the 2020 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux delivers notes of orange oil, fresh orchard fruit, clear honey and apple blossom, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and saline palate.
