Score 88/100 · Drink 2022-2028, Neal Martin, Jul 2022

The 2020 Givry La Grande Berge 1er Cru offers tightly-wound dark berry fruit, bergamot and light iris flower scents, requiring a little more coaxing from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe tannins that frame the crushed strawberry and raspberry fruit. Fine weight with a touch of white pepper on the finish, this should give 4-6 years of drinking pleasure.

Another fine premier cru Givry. Wood more dominant here than on the Clos Jus – leave 12–18 months before approaching. However, there is lovely freshness and focus on the palate. Dark-berry fruit. Very nice ripe tannins. Will age well. (AWH)

The 2020 Givry La Grande Berge 1er Cru has a ripe bouquet with black cherries, wild strawberry and violet aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, plenty of fleshy red fruit, a dash of white pepper with a slightly herbaceous yet well defined and quite persistent finish. Good potential.
