Score 90/100 · Drink 2008-2015, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Feb 2008

The 2001 Gran Reserva is sourced from vineyards over 30 years of age. The wine was aged for 24 months in 25% new French and American oak. Made in Rioja’s traditional style, it has a stylish perfume of cedar, earth, mineral, violets, and blackberry. On the palate it reveals its elegant personality with red and black fruit flavors making an appearance. Well-balanced, it will provide pleasant drinking now through 2015. Medium red. Bright redcurrant and cherry aromas are precise and restrained. Suave red fruit flavors are gently supported by fine-grained tannins, with zesty minerality adding energy. Impressively sweet on the broad, long finish, which leaves behind a tangy mineral quality.
