The 2018 Syrah Grenache is a terrific blend of 64% Syrah and 36% Grenache, aged entirely in used 500-liter puncheons. Almost a third of the Syrah was fermented as whole bunches, so there is a touch of steaminess apparent, but those herbal notes serve to help balance the exuberant blueberries, mulberries and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, creamy and supple on the palate, with a long, softly dusty finish, it's a lush, fruit-driven wine that should drink well for a decade or more.

64% Syrah, 36% Grenache. The Syrah included 30% whole-bunch; the Grenache had 15%. Aged in old French oak for 17 months. Much more closed on the nose than their 100% Grenache . Grippier too. It's altogether backward and rather hides its light under a bushel at present, if that's the phrase I'm looking for. (RH)
