In contrast, the 2018 Lirac La Lorentine offers a darker, more meaty style as well as lots of smoky black fruits and peppery herbs, medium-bodied richness, a fleshy, expansive mid-palate, and a great finish. This is a nicely concentrated, relatively powerful Lirac that can be drunk any time over the coming 7-8 years. This is another fine set of releases from the Armenier family. While it looks like there’s no Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes cuvee produced in 2018, readers should save up for the 2019 as this is a powerful, magical release along the lines of the 2000, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2010, and 2016.

A blend of 50% Mourvèdre, 40% Syrah and 10% Grenache, the 2018 Lirac La Lorentine combines notes of cola, plums, blueberries and black olives on the nose. It's full-bodied, concentrated, silky and long, with a hint of licorice on the finish. It's a damn good-looking Lirac.
