(13.6% alcohol after 0.3% chaptalization; the yield here was 35 hectoliters per hectare, with no frost): Very ripe on the nose and distinctly darker and more brooding than the Bonnes-Mares, with a perfumed suggestion of sandalwood. Dense, savory and soil-driven, showing more crushed rock and earth than primary fruits and flowers today. This very deep, dark wine finishes chewy and very long. There's a lot of clay in this vineyard but the soil dries quickly, noted Jeremy Seysses, who added that this wine is never really hard, even in the early going.

The 2016 Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru has a sensual, quixotic bouquet with macerated small red cherries, blueberry, a light marine influence developing in the glass. This offers haunting purity, a real femme fatale. It’s actually more like a Richebourg in style as it broadens and deeps with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity, not quite as sensual as the Bonnes-Mares with a tender, lightly spiced finish. This is just ridden with class.
