The 2019 Vosne-Romanée En Orveau 1er Cru, vinified without SO2, has a smudged, heavy and Bretty nose at the moment, but there is some attractive black fruit behind the murk. The palate is concentrated, with sweet, confit -like black fruit, lower acidity than its peers and a slightly ponderous finish that lacks a bit of Pinoté , especially when compared directly with Guyon's En Orveau alongside. It’s difficult to see this undergoing some Lazarus-like resurrection based on this showing. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru En Orveaux is striking, soaring from the glass with scents of dark berries, woodsmoke, rose petals and loamy soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, layered and sumptuous, with terrific depth and mid-palate amplitude, it's seamless and elegant, with velvety tannins and a long, saline finish.
