The 2018 Lions de Suduiraut has a subtle waxy element on the nose, melted candle wax complementing the peach, dried honey and ripe clementine aromas. The well-balanced palate offers fine acidity that cuts through the intense honeyed fruit; mango and orange pith appear toward the harmonious finish. This is actually a very fine Second Wine from Pierre Montégut and his team.

The 2018 Lions de Suduiraut is an attractive second wine. Orange confit, burnt sugar, dried rose petal, hazelnut, spice, coffee and licorice are signs of a wine that is already heading towards maturity. The 2018 will offer fine drinking over the next few years, although I would not push my luck on aging, as this mid-weight Sauternes is built for the here and now.
