Cask sample. Typical Aloxe rusticity seems to work well as a counter to the richness and sweetness of 2020. Not a typical Côte de Beaune Pinot but there is plenty of character here. (AWH)

The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Les Vercots 1er Cru is tangibly cut from a different cloth on the nose compared to the Village Cru: much darker fruit, a subtle marine influence at play, an almost pastille-like quality. The palate is medium-bodied with sinewy tannins on the entry that frame the cranberry and strawberry fruit laced with white pepper. There is a little oak to be assimilated on the finish, but I can see this giving 15-20 years of drinking pleasure.
