Very pale garnet. Toasty-sweet. Quite light and gamey on the palate. A little chewy on the end. (JR)

From a vineyard planted in the mid seventies. 60% whole bunch. 'I'm a lazy winemaker', grins Lukas van Loggerenberg. 'I do one pumpover in the morning.' Aged in 500-litre French oak, bottled at the end of October. pH 3.4. Crunchy, peppery, snappy little wine packed with Alpine strawberries, cranberries, pomegranate (as he says) and the lovely tang of struck rock. It has the whizzing energy of a zip line and Lilliputian tannins. It tastes like licking rain off rocks. And then heady masses of roses on the end. (TC)

The 2021 Geronimo is a Cinsault blend that was augmented with Franschhoek fruit to the Stellenbosch, 40% whole bunch fermented. Loggerenberg believes that this cuvée is the one that has benefitted from the new winery as he has the space to leave the juice on the skins longer. It has a very perfumed bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry and traces of blue fruit and rose petal. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, slightly powdery in texture with a lovely piquancy on the finish. Beautiful.
