The 2021 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru has a classy bouquet with assiduous use of whole cluster that complements the red berry fruit. Wonderful delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, fresh and vibrant, finely sculpted tannins with a sense of mineralité and tension on the finish that has far more sustain than its peers. This is a classy and quite delicious wine for the vintage. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Pale garnet. Sweet start and such concentration of fruit that it's deceptively easy to like even now, but it's all tucked in. Though there is no doubt that the less-expensive wines at this domaine are much better value! (JR)

The 2021 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru, the crown jewel of the Domaine, has an intense nose with black cherries, raspberry coulis, white pepper and bay leaf. Lovely definition with a subtle briny note that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a firm grip and moderate weight, though it is missing some amplitude towards the finish due to the severely reduced volume. Yet it has plenty of freshness and length, so afford it five to six years in the cellar.
