The 2021 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru clearly has whole bunch presence on the nose with brambly red fruit. Very elegant in style, it just blossoms in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, soy and brown spices. Quite savoury compared to its peers, it has insistent grip and a healthy pinch of cracked black pepper on the tertiary finish. If you do not like stems, then avoid this, but I feel that it should all come together with time in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru, matured in 50% new oak, takes time to unfurl on the nose: brambly red fruit, undergrowth, just a touch of liquorice and sea spray. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, well-judged acidity, more open than previous vintages, supple and very pure on the finish. Wonderful. Four barrels produced - the maximum produced from their holding.
